Your connection to a healthier lifestyle

border=0Double Your Dedication to Exercise

We all are aware of the benefits of Partnership. We have partners in life and business that are essential for happiness and success. Have you tried applying this concept to diet and exercise? For some people having a “workout buddy” can do wonders for their accountability and dedication to a new exercise program. The key is Motivation. If you cannot motivate yourself to get out of bed or go to the gym, perhaps your partner will provide that motivation. If nothing else, just knowing that the other person is waiting for you and relying on you to be there will provide some motivation. In addition, working out with a good friend or co-worker can make the time fly by.

There are important factors to consider when choosing an exercise and diet partner. First of all, the person has to have similar goals for health and wellness. Secondly, the person must have a similar schedule. If you work from 10am to 7pm, but your friend works from 6am to 3 pm you may having difficulty finding mutually accepted workout times. Third, you need to be able to be honest and open with one another. Constructive criticism and advice are important. If you are afraid to suggest a faster walking pace, this may not be a good situation. Finally, choose a partner with a similar fitness level. This will allow you to improve together. If you partner with someone who runs 10 miles per day, while you can only run 1 or 2 miles this could be a problem. You may not be able to workout together everyday, but just meeting 2-3 days a week can provide good support. This is especially true if you have to report the other days to each other.

Remember, that this relationship does not have to be limited to 2 people. I know several groups that have been formed to provide the same kind of support. For instance, having 3 or 4 people working together provides an even bigger pool of support. Set up a weekly schedule of aerobics classes, walking/running times and places, etc. You can even try to meet weekly to discuss diet, as well as your successes and frustrations.

As a nutrition consultant, I have several partners I meet with together, including couples, spouses, friends, mothers & daughters and even siblings. Not only do I see good signs of support and encouragement, there is occasionally a bit of friendly competition. Most important of all….. I see success!
