 | Make Exercise a Part of Your Daily Routine! One of the most common barriers to exercise is TIME! Many people feel they do not have the time to exercise, due to obligations at work and home. Thus, it can be a difficult task, but you have to move exercise up on your priority list. If you can make it part of your daily routine, just like eating breakfast or taking a shower, it will fit into your day.
Here are some things to try:
1) Wake up earlier! Nobody thinks they can do this, but it is possible. If you make it a habit, you will find you are capable of working out on a regular basis. Plus, there will be no opportunity during the day to talk yourself out of a workout. If you can get up 30-60 minutes earlier, you can fit in a quick run, walk, or aerobics class. Most gyms have 6 am classes. The best part of working out in the morning is that you will feel energized and more alert, and you no longer have to find time during your busy day.
2) If mornings are something you just can't do, try the lunchtime crunch. This solution works well for people who are able to break away for an hour and head to a nearby gym or running trail.
3) Break up your exercise into 10-15 minute increments. Although the cardiovascular benefits are not as great, you will still burn a good number of calories. For instance, try exercising 10-15 minutes in the morning, 10-15 minutes at lunch, 10-15 minutes after work or school, and 10-15 minutes in the late evening.
4) If you try to fit in exercise after work it is important to go straight to the gym or trail. If you go home first, there is a good chance you won't make it back out the door!
You have to find the time of day and routine that will work best for you and then stick with it. Add it to your schedule book in advance.
